Samhain, on October 31, is the last holiday in the cycle. It’s the darkest one, acknowledging death and loss, and the visible decline in the land around us (I know it rains in L.A. sometimes, people).

There are some things that I didn’t believe when I first started out. I thought they were inflated or purely made up, like so much of what is out there related to earth religions and witchcraft. But, over time, I have organically come to the same conclusions.

People say that, on Samhain, the veil to the spirit world is thinnest, and it is the easiest time to reach across it. For some reason, despite an informal and nature-focused practice, this is the one night of the year that I will unquestionably cast a formal circle.
